Reading to your child is probably one of the most important and influential activities you can do. I love reading to my son at night and now that he is getting older I am enjoying having him read to me. I get such a proud feeling when I see him sounding out words and his face lights up when he gets a long word right. Cheerios has also recognized the value of reading to children.
About Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories program:
Over the past seven years, Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories has given away more than 35 million children’s books by distributing them free inside cereal boxes and has donated nearly $3 million to First Book, their non-profit partner, which provides books to children from low-income families.
In addition to encouraging children to read, Cheerios is looking for anyone interested in writing children’s books. Now in its third year, the Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories New Author Contest is a way to encourage previously unpublished, up-and-coming children’s book authors and to continue to nurture a love of reading. Entries are being accepted March 16 through July 15, 2009 and will be judged on appropriate story and content for children ages 3-8, emotional connection, writing quality, uniqueness, and read-aloud potential. More details on the contest can be found at www.spoonfulsofstoriescontest.com.
The first years winner, Shellie Braeuner, won for her book “The Great Dog Wash” had her book reviewed by Simon & Schuster’s Children’s Publishing and was then offered a book deal. Her book will be published in hard cover this summer. How great is that?! I had the opportunity to read this book and both Hunter and I love it. Such a cute story.
I received a Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories gift set which includes a copy of “The Great Dog Wash” as well as three other books from the spoonfuls library from My Blog Spark and they would also like to offer one of my readers a gift set as well.

My favorite childrens book is Madeline.
Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. It's a story about honesty and mistakes and redemption. A lot for a three year old to handle, I know, but it's been my favorite for years!
